Leadership Lessons from Bali: Rich in Character Virtues
I just wrapped up two incredible weeks in Bali, Indonesia. This trip was the perfect blend of a peaceful vacation with my wife and an inspiring gathering at the Global Speakers Federation biannual meeting. As I explored this beautiful island and connected with fellow leaders, a few timeless leadership principles struck me deeply—principles that transcend borders and cultures.
Reflecting on my time in Bali, I was reminded of the enduring leadership virtues of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control.
Here is a quick recap:
- Universal Virtues are Timeless: The character traits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control, which Paul listed in his letter to the Galatians 2000 years ago, are still just as relevant today. These virtues know no boundaries and are as relevant in leadership today as ever.
- Cultural Richness and Kindness: During my time in Bali, I was overwhelmed by the kindness and warmth of the local people. It reminded me how important it is to demonstrate these rich in character virtues in our leadership, irrespective of geographical boundaries.
- Leadership Reflection: As a leader, it’s crucial to instill and exhibit these core virtues in our everyday interactions. Join me in embracing these timeless principles and applying them in our leadership journeys, wherever we are in the world.
Applying These Virtues: As leaders, we should model these values, integrate them into our organizations, and invest in training that emphasizes emotional intelligence and ethical decision-making.
Fellow Leader- The question to reflect on is: How are you doing at demonstrating rich in character virtues in your leadership?
