Confident Uncertainty: Leading With Clarity During Times of Upheaval
Leading through Confident Uncertainty
Let’s face it, this past decade has thrown everything at us. Political instability, economic disruption, cultural shifts. It’s been a season that’s tested leaders in ways we couldn’t have predicted. And in the midst of all that, one idea keeps surfacing in my conversations with leaders across the country: we’ve got to learn how to lead with what I call confident uncertainty.
Now, that phrase might sound contradictory. But here’s what I mean: leading with confident uncertainty doesn’t require having all the answers. In fact, these days, pretending you do just erodes trust. What it does require is this: being grounded in what you know today, showing up with energy and purpose, and having the humility to pivot when new information comes along.
And this isn’t just a mindset for navigating crises, it’s becoming an essential leadership muscle for the long haul. The world’s going to keep changing, and if we wait for the dust to settle before we lead, we’ll be waiting a very long time.
So, let me ask you, leader, how are you practicing confident uncertainty right now?
